What is the altitude of Quito and how to avoid "altitude sickness"?

Quito is 2,850 meters (9,350 feet) above sea level.

It is recommended to arrive 48 hours early and avoid alcohol, heavy meals, and physical activity for the first 24 hours. Stay hydrated by drinking at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day. If you experience altitude sickness, you can take one or two aspirin tablets (500 mg).

You can also take Mareol (available at any pharmacy without a prescription) or, as another option, sweetened hot coca tea.

Weather

Quito temperature is between 16-18 degrees Celsius (49-68 degrees Fahrenheit).

We recommend bringing a jacket and using sunscreen in the morning, as the sun rays are often strong. Don't forget your umbrella; Quito's weather is unpredictable.

What documents do I need to travel to Ecuador?

1. Ecuador does not require a visa to enter the country.

2. Valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of travel.

3. Proof of travel and accommodation.

Transportation

Use only authorized taxis from the airport or directly from your hotel. You can also use Uber, Cabify, or the Metro to reach the Historic Center.

Is Quito a safe city?

Quito is a large city, and tourists shouldn't worry too much, as long as they remain attentive and alert.

However, caution should always be exercised, as in any other country.

We recommend keeping a close eye on your belongings, especially in touristic areas.
